About the Role
We seek a visionary Executive Director to launch and lead Virtual Horizons Charter School. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced school leader passionate about innovation, student success, and shaping the future of education.
As Executive Director, you will report directly to the Board of Directors and oversee all aspects of the school’s success, from building a strong academic culture to ensuring operational excellence. You will be critical in leading the school into its first year and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
School Leadership and Culture
- Foster a collaborative, supportive, and innovative work environment for staff, students, and families.
- Build a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and educational ingenuity.
Curriculum and Instruction
- Collaborate with VR instructional designers to implement an engaging VR curriculum aligned to Utah state standards.
- Personalize learning pathways to meet the diverse needs of students.
Teacher Development
- Evaluate qualified VR-certified teachers and staff.
- Support ongoing professional development and promote best practices in virtual learning.
Student Enrollment and Family Engagement
- Lead statewide student recruitment efforts to increase enrollment.
- Ensure families are engaged, supported, and connected to VHCS’s mission.
Compliance and Data-Driven Improvement
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local educational regulations.
- Oversee student achievement data systems to drive academic growth and transparency.
Requirements
Master’s Degree and Administrative Endorsement in education are highly preferred.
Utah Administrative License (per UELS Standards) and USBE background clearance required.
Experience in founding or leading a charter school is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with online education and/or VR learning environments is a strong advantage.
Deep understanding of research-based curriculum design, instructional leadership, and virtual best practices.
Proficiency with technology tools: Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Learning Management Systems (Canvas), Zoom, Asana, Slack, and other web-based platforms.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and deliver measurable results.

Each VHCS student receives a VR headset, laptop, and internet access to fully engage in our dynamic virtual classrooms, interactive experiences, and teacher-led instruction. We proudly offer students daily VR-based synchronous classes, asynchronous activities, personalized intervention, and comprehensive SPED support — all from the comfort of their home.
Chartered by the Utah State Charter School Board in 2024, VHCS is excited to launch its inaugural academic year in August 2025.
