About the Role
The Special Education Director at Virtual Horizons Charter School (VHCS) is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and compliance of all special education programs and services. This position ensures that VHCS adheres to federal and state regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), while providing students with individualized support tailored to their needs. The director will lead and mentor special education staff, develop professional development programs, and collaborate with parents, educators, and external agencies to ensure effective Individualized Education Program (IEP) implementation. Additionally, they will monitor student progress and program effectiveness, continuously identifying areas for improvement to enhance the overall learning experience for students with disabilities.
Requirements
Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
Valid Utah Administrative/Supervisory License with a Special Education endorsement.
Minimum of five years of experience in special education, with at least two years in a leadership role.
Comprehensive knowledge of special education laws and best practices.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
